One good thing about the Varitronic is that the ignition profile starts low, quickly advances, then retards as revs raise higher. The benefit of this is that it makes kick starting much easier and reduces the chance of it kicking back.

Probably the best "tried and tested" for a Lambretta.
The advance/retard is preset unlike M-Tech's, Reedspeeds, Krytronic, etc, which for some is a negative.
I had no problems with mine for 2 years but got concerned about finding spares urgently if i broke down away from home. The cost and availability of spares finally made me change to a more standard set up (BGM and an M-Tech).

Big thanks to Lofty
He explained it well and its clear the stuff I had read was 4 stroke related with it advancing as revs increased.
The more I read the more I thought WTF.
Now im on my way to sorting out my problems with carbs my M tech is looking good. Its very easy to start and I can feel it fire half way through the kickstart stroke with it helping it through its travel. I dont have to do that full blooded jump onto the kickstart. Im not covinced that I need contiuous retarding through the rev range. 8 degrees from say 22 would be fine for me.. my imola augusto has a bit of a rev limiter effect at full revs. Maybe its going too far and I need to knock it back a bit. I bought the 7000 version and wished at the time I went for the 6000.

Can you convert a veritronic to full DC. Not AC with a trickle charge to a battery.
How does it adjust the timing. Box of tricks? Or some other way.
