I'm ringing AF Rayspeed up tomorrow, I've done just 2000 miles on it since I got it 9 months ago .

Sadly, what ever way you look at it you're going to have to start by taking the top end off.
That it turns nearly all the way round one way then the other suggests there's something seriously wrongly, possibly something jamming in the area above the piston. It's also possible that the big end or bearings have gone but you won't know till you start to look.
You'll also be very lucky if you get the dealer to look at it after any mileage, let alone 2000, since they've no idea what you've done to it since you collected it.
Keep us posted.

Hmm yes good point,
Im in the area if non experience now. I've never done anything regarding stripping an engine !

Take flywheel off and check if one of the stator bolts haven't come out and is catching on the flywheel , if this has happened this could allow it to turn slightly either way then lock. Seen this a couple times with the bolt catching the holes drilled to balance the flywheel,

No it's far more serious. Seems to me to be a broken ring or something. The scraping noise is only heard when using kick start though and the piston appears to move freely when turning the flywheel. It's going to need a strip down to see what it is and it's not something I'm relishing. When it does lock it's solid. Solid enough to stand on the lock start. But there are times when using the kick start it never locks but keeps making the scraping noise!
