Alreet brickie - just curoius at to why you favouring the JL4 exhaust system, yet want a torquey set-up - surely a Taffy pipe or similar would allow you to pull taller gearing at lower revs giving longer component life?
Also with the above in mind, why you choosing a race reed valve system ....the standard AF item helps produce good hp figures
Again smaller carbs help with promoting more torque, so maybe consider a TM30?
Just my thoughts, but i'd hate for you to spend all yer dosh and get a seaside screamer instead of what you really wanted??
Reet
Funnily enough the JL4 does produce a lot of torque on big bore motors and tends to behave a little differently than when you put one on say a 225.
On a 240 with port timings of 130 trans and 185 exhaust a JL4 gave a 2hp peak horsepower gain and allowed the bike to rev on with useable power for another 1000rpm. More importantly it gave between one and 2 hp gain in the mid range and increased peak torque from 20ft/lb to 22ft/lb. This is against the devtour that was previously on it.
To get the best out of them though I think a variable ignition is a must as the increased mid range is helped by the advance and the rev on by being able to have it further retarded than if set static.
If it was my bike I still wouldn't have a JL4 though as this bike is now on its second pipe. The ground clearance is a joke and they frequently blow the front down pipe out. This starts as a crack and if not picked up causes the motor to run very hot.
On the 240 im building for myself at the moment I shall be using 190 degree exhaust and a taffy pipe.
Gearing wise the previously mentioned bike pulls sx200 gearing with 16/47 sprockets easily.
Another 240 I built with the same port timings pulls LI150 with 18/47 with a taffy pipe. This is in a series 2 as well.
I agree with soullad regards the carb I think all those I have done (4 so far) would run very well on TM30s.

Got Varitronic ingnition for it.
I've got the TMX35 and havent got a pit of cash so will try that first but thanks (Diablo, you say 'would' run very well on a TM30, they are not doing so at the minute?) for your comments, I have seen the posts on the smaller carbs and watched with interest and willl prolly have a play later on in its life.
I still have the original reeds, but thought (read) the Tassinari ones gave better proformance...? Could always try them first.

Thats probably a damn good reason why the Lambretta has remained so popular...theres so much fiddle factor and you can keep trying and swapping to see what works the best.
Mike (soulsurfer) dyno'd his TS1 with both a 30 and 35 Mikuni and found the 30 was not only more fuel efficient but gave a fraction better HP. Not saying yours Brickie would do the same but you never know.......

So thats the input on a open forum for the spread of knowledge on tuning?
Looks like its gonna be a game of try a bit, see how it is, try a bit more, goes really well, try a bit more and fook it up
Wish me luck!
