I've got the tool that bolts to the chaincase studs and pushes the crank out. I put a length of threaded rod through this and use an old bearing up against the new one to draw the new bearing into the casing. You will need a large washer as well. It helps, as you say, to heat the casing ( I use a hot air paint stripper gun rather than a naked flame ), and put the bearing in the freezer.
