As a decent stub mounted pipe this has probably served you better than any fixed u-bend type would have. Do make sure that you leave it free to move/sprung, rather than trying to seal the 2 together.
I've just had exactly the same problem. Exhaust gasket blew so I just thought I'd try and that franspeed tourer (destined for another engine) in place of my gori to see the effect on the performance on my muggy 225 (which was very interesting). It's just a simple exhaust swap, how hard can that be? Anyway decided preferred the gori for the moment so went to put that back on......
So first a stripped exhaust stud. Want to do it properly so off with the top end and take he barrel down to a local engineering firm - slipstream in otford if anyone's interested - I'd recommend them. Two timeserts put in for 36 quid. Rock solid, nice job. New MB stainless studs and Andy Francus extended nuts (only those didn't fit with Gori u bend) so new brass nuts. All loctited. Feeling chuffed with that but slightly irritated.....
I'd already had to take the chaincase off to remove the studs for the bracket holding the end can on the tourer, so I whipped it off again to put new studs back in which went fine. Then one of the other chaincase studs started the "everlasting turn of death". Seems it was a bodged repair where they'd drilled further down into the chain case, tapped and put a long pice of stud the same size. No idea how to fix that but, hey, haven't I got that chemical metal somewhere? I wonder if that would work - its 11pm, I'm not thinking straight..... Embarrassed to say that seem to have worked so its another "proper job" for the future. Then the stud holding the exhaust tailpipe gives up the go too! I prefer not to tell you how I fixed that but I think it's to be considered "temporary". Talk about tension when you do up these nuts knowing that 1/8 of a turn too much will result in another disaster!
Anyway just about to put everything back and see if it all holds. If not its engine out and "proper" repair. Joy of owning a fifty year old Lammy!
