Put some wooden blocks under the stand so the front wheel is off the ground. Hold the front wheel and see if there is any play when you lift it up and down. If there is, your steering bearings are loose. Simples.

Also worth checking the axle nuts ate tight and the fit of the peg in the brake backplate.

First thing I'd check would be for a slack handful of ball bearings or marbles in the petrol tank.

The bit on the off side of the hub that doesn't turn, there will be a peg sticking out of the link that sits in a U shaped moulding on the backplate, if this is worn it can make a knocking noise.simonwwfc wrote:rosscla wrote:Might be worth taking the dampers off and seeing if it's the same to eliminate them.

Rite found issues .
Fork nut been done up to tight and shagged bearings , also knocking sound was deff where fork link fits into brake plate and slight movement when rocking back and forth .

I did this on a PX recently, wrecked top race by over tightening it, easy done, especially with cheaper bearings.
I'd sort that first and see how it feels then look to replace the backplate if it's still knocking.
