Well, that´s your thoughts. Nobody here in Germany uses S1 tyres - I have done it once and never again. I usually need about 3-4 tyres every season and never had any problems with Schwalbe. Well, I take care of them in terms of pressure and load.....

Had Continental Navigators on my GP for up till last year when had to replace them and as I couldnt get them anymore ive got Continental Twists which after using them for the last year think are much better :D :D :D

Got Schwalbe Racemans   on the cutdown but after all the horror stories I think i must have some from the origonal batch as I bought them 3 years ago and they seem ok so far, fingers crossed :!: :!:

All I can tell you is that our experience over here is very different and Scwalbes recommendations haven't been helpful.

I've been following the Schwalbe problems and not totally convinced there's a problem. Schwalbe have been slow to say there's not a problem but I don't believe many people have actually sent their tyres back. I also believe a lot of the tyres are under inflated. That's not to say there might have been a bad batch! It's interesting that when I have offered to buy someone's new Schwalbes who has had a problem I've not had one person prepared to sell them to me. In my opinion they are a great tyre but I do check them very regularly.

If you have a death wish? Buy some Schwalbe's. If you want a good old standard type of tyre at a fair price? Get yourself some Michelin S83's or SM100's.

I know/have spoken with a number of people first hand (not mates of mates of mates) who have never had problems with Schwalbes. They check their tyres regularly and keep the pressures up and don't know what all the fuss is about.......then one by one they have found bulges and delaminated patches and have all changed their minds.

When all the fuss just started a few years back I had a pair of newish Schwalbe Racemans on a set of SIP rims and had no problems. I didn't want to change them and have all that hassle but after seeing a couple of pics on the net I wasn't going to take any chances so for the sake of £70 ish changed them. Seeing how this has now escalated I am very glad that I did. There are only two bits of rubber between me and the road. No other tyres have had this problem in the 30 odd years that I've been riding. That includes anything from TS1'ing a fully loaded bike on 62mph rated S1s to being a 16 /17 year old muppet going half way round the country on what ever tyres we could get out hands on with 10 psi in each wheel if we were lucky!! Schwalbes are shite and you might get hurt or die. But if you'd rather save £70..... :?
