isnt spit back due to bad porting timings?

all lambretta engines have a degree of spit back ..its more noticeable on an open mouth .and can cause poor starting on a filter set up..smaller carb will make little difference...reed valves in my opinion don't prevent spit back .its a two stroke fact of life .as is s**t mpg ,once you ask scotty for warp speed

You shouldn't be getting serious spit back with a reed set up, have you had the reeds out to check they aren't damaged?

Never had much luck with a PHBH30mm on my Imola, even had it set up on a dyno but it still had a lot of spit back and they weren't able to cure the rich mid-range. I changed to a Mikuni TMX27 and got less spit back, more power and more mpg. I think I ran it open mouthed and had a scootrs exhaust with 5.4 gearing.
