iv just been out on it -

took malossi hose off, put a foam filer on

av 262, x2 2nd clip down, 55 pilot,

tried a 130 main, just splutters, no power, black plug oily/wet

tried a 125, picks up a bit lower down, but then splutters,

tried a 121, picks up better low to mid range, then splutters can't rev through it,

put the 115 back in, picks up, splutters mid range but revs through and picks up power again

need to get a new plug to check plug colour though,

any ideas?

i think it has a 200 or 250 fuel/needle valve, i do however had the sip fast flow tap,

when closed it still lets fuel through, but for some reason its still p1551ing through when closed when open pisses even more, so i think iv thrown half a tank of fuel on the floor changing my main jets tonight

Sounds like your float needle isn't closing off properly and it's flooding.

Take the bowl off, check for fuel in the floats, if none hold the float up, turn the petrol on and see if it still runs.

you havnt got the needle circlip on top of the coverplate by mistake have you? it should be crisp as owt with a 115 in . try it without the filter to eliminate that. them SIP FF taps don't turn fully off ive found. same with the Beedspeed ones.

checked cover plate, it is on top, got my spare tank out with another fast fuel tap, no problems with this one

anyway here the up date -

av 262,

x13 needle, 2nd clip down

117 main

50 pilot

now runs bob on no bog in any gear or throttle position,

im going to do some plug chops tomorrow and check the colour at 1/4, 1/2 and full throttle,

if its running lean, iv got an av 264 to try and a 119 and 121 mains to try too

its just guess work from here i think

if i can get plug colour ok then i will hopefully get it dynoed

i tried taking it out on a long run with these settings,

did a few plug chops and yep its running lean,

but then it kept spluttering and was not running right, while riding i flicked my lights off and the engine just didn't run right,

iv fitted a new cdi, new plug, new ht lead,

stator is what im checking tomorrow,

before that though i tried different pilot/atomiser/main/needle settings

55/av264/125/x13 2nd clip - bogs throughout range, black oily plug

52/av264/122/x13 1st clip - bogs here and there and onto main - plug dark but not oily

50/av262/119/x13 2nd clip - runs ok but plug is lean looking

i never replied before christmas,

got to the point where something just wasn't right, then it started being funny between idle and choke on and just gave all the tell tail signs of an air leak,

so im going to strip down the engine again and rebuild, iv decided to buy a new crank to fit anyway, the one i had put in was a mazz, which i didnt have checked to see if it was true,

gamble i know, but that might have thrown the main seal, anyway new bgm crank is going in when it arrives

When/where is it spluttering ?? is the engine trying to clear as you open up the throttle or just spluttering all the way through ?
115 main is to low !!! especially as you've modified the crank -inlet and matched the cases to the barrel !!
Spluttering will be because its to rich ...
Ill take my 30mm apart tomorrow and give you my settings...
Where have you set the timing ? It should be fully retarded BUT this can be a proplem because sometimes the slots need opening up slightly as they don't always allow you to adjust properly....

Probably a bit late but i hope it isn't a sticking choke.......just had similar problem on my 30mm. I could see the choke plunger opening and closing but it doesn't appear to have been seating right, running rich and causing similar problems.

defo not the choke sticking, i put the hand operated one back on to check if it was the choke sticking on but same symptoms,

as for 115 being too low, anything above 120 main it would splutter and the plug turn black, i did plenty of plug chops and it only looked right around 115/118 which i know is far too low, but anything above it just didn't run right,

as for timing, retarded it to 18 degrees using the IT mark as described on scooter help website, although reading it again I might have cocked up on that one,

iv lined up the mark on the casings with IT on the stator plate, which might be incorrect reading scooter help again, i might have to retard it a further 5mm reading it again

have i bloody cocked up the timing on it???

you don't line up any marks !!! if you've got another 5mm of adjustment then its wayyyyy oooot, you should turn the stator clockwise fully BUT its wise to strobe it and adjust/elongate the slots accordingly, A mate had to do the same on his, adjusting the stator wasn't giving the correct 18 degree when he strobed, filing the slots sorted it !!

Whe is it spluttering only at full throttle ? or before ?all the way through ?
