I personally think its heat and vibration. I tried to unwind one once but gave up after about 800 turns as the wire kept braking. In order to counter the vibration issue, resin is applied as the wire is wound on but on the SIL one I had, the resin was VERY patchy. I suspect that the better coils from BGM have more turns of the same wire gauge but with better qulity control over the resin injection. I did have it in mind to wind my own if I'd found out the number of turns but after doing the lighting coils which have only a fraction of the number of turns, I don't think I could be arsed and the price of a BGM one starts to seem attractive.

With the really thin pube-like wire they must require some decent resin and lacquer to resist the heat from the engine and the vibrations of a Lamby. Perhaps that is where they fall down. Whenever I've removed knackered ones they look and smell burnt and the lacquer on the outside just falls off. Difficult to know if it's heat build up in the coil from the electrical current or heat from the engine that does this. Maybe both? But we do know they are shite.
A proper unwound comparison between a genuine Vespa one and a SIL Lamby one would reveal what's grot and what's not.
Bet you your's will fail Rotor. I've got through a few....they truly are cak. I would seriously look into replacing it with a BGM or Ducati Vespa one. Pain in the arse and shouldn't be like that but.....
