IMHO you have missed nothing, quite a normal noise on a new build. Just some bedding in, should be much reduced after 200 Mls and gone after 500. (don't forget tho change the gear oil @ 500).
Quite why a component that's sole purpose is to apply the correct ammount of , dare I say it? 'tension' to a chain to achieve the requisite 'tension' (oops did it again) to ensure it runs evenly without whip, stepping or binding is called a guide is beyond me. The component 'tensions' (yellow card) the chain and ensures it aligns with where it needs to go. The tensioner (red) does not guide the chain, the tensioner (2 weeks suspension without pay) tensions (starting position removed) the chain so that it can guide it'self...... Is this component nomenculture imported from t'EwSeeJeeBee?
On the transfer list!?

After doing a search on here and LCGB site, I'm wondering if the noise maybe the kickstart needs adjusting, as it disappears when in gear. I've been looking at the wrong thing!

Easy Check: Cut 2-3mm off your kick start return buffer and re-check. If it was any more than that it would not sound like a MiniGun. more like an AK47 to start with.

in most cases a chain tensioner is spring loaded and applies a set amount of tension to the chain , a lambretta chain guide is only to stop the chain from "whipping" and should not apply any tension thats why there is 6 - 10mm up/ down play between the guide and front cog .if it was a tensioner there would be no play but tension , a bit like this thread now.

So a tensioner is so tense it inbits any side play? Can't be off a Lambretta then!

After all that, it was the kickstart that needed adjusting
