Lovely looking GS you have there. Mark 1's are getting increasingly rare.

Mine has the original GS160 engine and I agree that the ride is so sweat and smooth. What sort of top speed are you getting with the modified con-rod and overbored SS180 top end?

I too had a problem getting my Siem rear light to sit flush-

Top speed is 55-60mph.

I have a barrel at MB at the moment. Mark is making a new piston and re-bore so i get 208cc`s. I also have fitted a Grand Sport exhaust stub and a Sip Road (200) pipe.

I have pretty good grunt but I really think that the only way to get more top speed would be by doing something with the gears. I realy feels like it should have a higher 4th.

Can I ask why your mk.1 has a square tail? Iv`e only ever seen 3 Mk1`s and all of them have had a round tail without a resess for a number plate.

My SS is a 208 conversion and I agree regarding higher gearing. Saw that SIP has some DRT stuff that might do it but not 100% as I didn't have time to look into it in detail...

Thats my only bug bear with my GS - the top speed, it rides lovely around town but is a tad slow for long runs/ rallies etc. I would normally take my SX or PX instead. Everytime I think about doing something with it - I ride it and it reminds me how unique the GS's are to anythng else Ive ridden.

My GS is one of the last ones to come of the Mk 1's run if you look at the VIN. Apparently there were 1,811 'sqare back' Mk1's produced right before the switch to Mk 2's.

Thats cool , Makes your scoot even rarer than a normal mk.1. :geek:

I love riding it to work, its hilly and twisty and its has brilliant balance. Cars can`t keep up.

I hate using it on dual carrageways. I realy belive that it would pull a 5th gear. Just another 5mph with slightly lower revs and I would give up the hunt for a lammy in the blink of an eye.

I had my 14 year old daughter on the back today and I didn`t notice she was on the scoot at all. Its quite a grunty little scooter.

I am riding it to a rally next month but we are just driving on the back roads but as it stands, I will proberbly try to swap it with a lammy 200. There is a lot of cash in my garage and I can`t justify owning 2 scoots.

I regret it, even before I let it go :( I fancy a series 3 but they are hens teeth over here and iv`e owned boat loads of series 2`s already...

Was discussing this on the Vespa Sports list and with a 4.00 wheel you'd gain 6% extra top speed (if my calculations are correct).

Apparently it's possible also to swap primary gear but don't ask me for compatibility...
