Blown exhaust gasket
I'd also consider using something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/V-Tech-Vital- ... 27cf86fc5b it'll spice up your sandwich.Use it on mine on the slip joint and the on both sides of the copper gasket on the manifold,been bob on no leaks or blowing

I seem to remember that the solid copper gaskets should be heated until cherry red and then allowed to cool to anneal them. Then linish both faces of the gasket on some wet 'n dry fixed to a piece of glass. Also linish the gasket face of the U bend so that all surfaces are completely flat. A smear of HT silicone gasket sealer and wire locking exhaust nuts, and Bob's ye uncle.

To correctly anneal copper you need to heat it up bright red and then quench it in cold water. This is opposite of steel working where quenching hot steel makes it harder, copper gets softer. I have to anneal the copper soft jaws on my vice about once a year or so, so they stay soft. Theres some elemental physics involved as to the why and how but that's boring stuff.
