Really difficult this with running in - some people are 100% convinced it's placebo and "bedding of rings" doesnt exist, whereas other insist on 2000+ miles before opening up the throttle...
Arent there any scientific studies or similar on this out there that could end this once and for all...?

its quite odd, but in my cagiva mito, brand new top end, nikasil lined, I just heat cycled it 3-4 times at idle with a few blips etc, let it cool down and did it again etc
did about 50 miles taking it easy, pootling into town etc, not putting engine under strain by labouring it
on way home 1 day I got caught up having a play with a guy on a big sports bike round the lanes, caned the crap out of it, did so from then on LOL no problems, runs fine
but for some reason Im really worried about running in my mugello top end, will probably follow the advice from my supplier, at least if it does go wrong I know I did all I could.

I remember picking up a brand new vespa in 83 from shop, running in was never mentioned, if he had I would have ignored it anyway, teenagers seem to do that

, pushed it out of shop and around corner, started it up and taught myself to ride, ten minuites later I was an expert, then straight into rush hour traffic and canned it from then on, cant ever remember it nipping. Mind you we had better petrol back then.

To run in my vespa 210 malossi I kicked it of gave it 5 - 10 mins job done run in..
On all the lambrettas I have owned I have had to run in properly as being steel barrelled except an Imola which I gave up running it in after a couple of hundred miles then caned it.

Nothing scientific, opinion or theory but ive always stuck to the way a respected Lambretta tuner from Nottingham told me yrs ago.I live in the sticks so its easy,i rip about the country lanes not sticking at high revs for too long but still giving the motor a few beans through the gears. That way has never been an issue and have done that on all my iron barrels for about 500mls.Stuck with the oil/carb spec i intended to use after run in.
