Yup, really that simple, had to do it myself yesterday, temporarily misplaced my keys

well, today I managed to get some garage time

so off with the flywheel again to check for any swarf, washers or filings, but all clean as I expected.

pulled and wiggled the wiring about on the stator, the soldering looks like dogpoo, tapped and prodded things, then the pickup fell off LOL

the base plate of the pickup was broken, Im guessing that at the idle and just above, it was in an ideal position to let it run,but trying to rev it higher created vibration that moved it or made it come into contact with flywheel

so I have been busy shopping online again :(

got a pickup on the way to repair this unit, going to redo the soldering and wiring, then epoxy resin the wires in place to keep vibration effects to a minimum, this will become my spare as I also ordered a BGM stator, and a CDI while I was at it, best buy spares now rather than be left without parts later when I want it to ride to a show or rally

this scooter is the biggest money pit I have ever encountered.

hopefully Im still ahead of the game as I got it cheap, but cant beleive that I spent so much and still not ridden it properly

hmm me too

if it doesnt then Im selling the damned thing, might just get lucky and break even.

I have no more money or hair left, ripped it all out. how can something so simple be so stupidly annoying

plan is to fit the BGM stator once it arrives, run it up and see if its fixed, then run it in, get it dynoed, once I done a few miles and happy that the stator is ok I want to do a DC conversion. got a couple of bike digital speedos that require DC power, build one into a GP speedo housing.

new BGM stator still not here, but new K2 pickup arrived form ebay, for the sake of £4 I decided to try and rebuild/repair the old stator, its an SIL one and fairly new, previous owner only did about 80 miles on it

so I had a good look round it, and apart from the soldering looking like the largest pile of pigeon poo I ever seen, I noticed that the earth from the old pickup coil had been melted, it showed signs of shorting out on the lighting coil connection, maybe this was why the max revs could be altered with turning the lights on and off

perhaps it might be worth looking at this area for others if they having problems.

Im going to desolder it all, and fit all new wires, modern thinwall as I always use.

flywheel in lathe to skim the fan down, then right proper clean of the fan, then all Im waiting for is the BGM stator, might just fit the old one as Im so impatient LOL

I planned to do that but worried about doing it on a brand new BGM stator, will give it a few months to make sure it all works ok, last thing I need is any warranty claim issues due to me cutting it about

but its on my list of things to do.

A good tip for removing filings/swarf on flywheel magnets is to use Bluetack stuck to the end of a wooden coffee stirrer and pick the bits off. Not really your problem but referred to earlier in the thread and just thought I'd add it.

One of the first things I do with a new [to me] scooter is have a good scan at the loom, wire colours and connections, if it looks iffy or wrong coloured wires, connector blocks, etc then I'll rip it out and stick a new one in, MB, Casa, Barney Pup [LCGB, Toddy?] Peace of mind for £20 ish.

^^^ agree with Mr Martin, the leccys on a lammy are very basic but often misunderstood and messed / butchered bout with. Much simpler and cheaper in the long run to fit known reputable reliable items. I think that at the present it doesn't get much better than a BGM stator, welded boss & lightened Indian flywheel and Ducati cdi / regulator plus new loom / switches. Of course you can spend abit more on some of the more exotic systems out there but fitted / set correctly the previous should last.

well the good news is that my rebuilt indian stator works, will fit the BGM when it arrives, but I just had to fit the SIL one and try it :)

fuel on, left it while I found keys, choke on, feel kickstart over for compression, 1 kick and its alive, knock choke off and hold throttle a little as it wont idle, leave it for a bit, give alittle rev,yup sounds better

then the important bit, will it rev proper,:) yup, bit unclean and lumpy

wouldnt pull away without choke on,so turned it off and dug out my carb bits

AV266 and X13 2nd clip from top in there now, it still doesnt rev totally clean, but maybe Im just too used to modern moto cross engines and bike engines?

took it for a spin round car park, opened it up in1st to about half throttle, bit fluffy, tried for 2nd gear, was funny, I took so long to think about and actually do the gear change to 2nd that I had slowed down sufficient that it almost stalled LOL LOL

jetting is now the next stage.

Same goes for carb parts / jets / slides / atomisers etc, try not to use secondhand parts as they're often worn.
