Couldn't imagine not running an air filter on any type of street application. All kinds of stuff can get sucked into the engine and engines don't usually like objects being sucked into them. :o

I'd take the drop in performance that adding an air filter might present over running the risk of sucking in a small bird through the inlet and grenading the engine. Cheap insurance and all that.

I note that they have a large range of other filters too, incl. what appears to be a decent size RamAir that is made to their size requirement. These may be worth considering as the hose that somes with the Breathe Sweet filter may not fit your carb. Best thing would be to give them a call and talk through your specific requirements (carb, otor, etc.)
Is that filter element tapered?
I have found most filter elements are parallel and contact the inner side panel when mounted.
Thus loosing this effective area for air intake. I always glue a rubber grommet on my hose to ensure the element is lifted off the inner panel when fitted.
I run short CDC manifolds, the angle of which means that the hose and filter lean towards the frame and don't sit against the panel.

Isn't it part of a quote from one of the '20's or '30's tuners at Brooklands talking about some hooge carb?
"Big enough to suck in birds and small boys..."
