Just subject it to intense heat or burn it. When it's cooled rub your index finger on the residue. If your finger is severely burnt by the fluoric (bad spelling) acid and you have to have it fully or partially amputated to save your arm or worse . . . . then it's not a tap washer, its fluoroelastomer.
