Done. Used your idea of the tax disc for the template for the hole.
It was easier than I thought due to the carb rubbing against the panel and this gave me the point to use for marking and drilling.
When I get back home I'll post pics of how hard the carb was rubbing against the side panel.

Never checked closely the paint removed from inside the panel.
It was bad, the carb rubbed hard enough to put grooves in the metal.
But at least I knew where to cut the hole.
Just need to tidy the hole up a wee bit more.
I can't use the disc holder because of the curves in the side panel
Thanks for the help troops.

I love this scoot.
Just the right mix of well used/well maintained/not too bothered about winning any custom show prizes.
Going for the same philosophy with my rebuilt Li.
Great stuff.

Thank you very much. It does look a lot worse in the flesh and although I was a bit embarrassed about the state of it. The positive posts in the show your scoot pics forum changed my mind.

Bilko, can't you "persuade" the tax disc holder gently to the curve of your panel??

No mate, the curve too sharp.
I'd need to find something very flexible.
