Cambridge Lambretta do an 'Ultimate' end can, which I can confirm is much quieter and sounds nicer than the usual JL type, as I've got one on my Super Monza exhaust, however, the end can on it's own is £200.

I've seen posts on this forum before where different types of end can - from other 2 strokes - have been used with success, however, not sure what make they were, and seem to recall that at the time I couldn't find anywhere on the net that sold them.

It would be great to get a recommendation of an end can that can be used from another 2 stroke that is quieter than the JL type (like the Ulimate is), fits (maybe with a bit of fettling) but isn't too expensive and can be easily sourced, say from Ebay or similar. I very much doubt if we did find something it would have the build quality of the 'Ultimate' etc., but it would just be nice to have a cheaper alternative.

Maybe this is all just wishful thinking! :D
i make one the same for £100 a few of my customers run them on jl and fran and are much quieter
ill have to put them on ebay when i get round to it

back to original post either oil soaked or a baked hard skin on the wadding reduces its ability to silence
if u wrap with wire wool first the heat wont crispen the wool on the hot baffle tube and wool needs to be loose dont over fill or wire up as the tight packing doesnt allow the noise to pass thru into all the wool
feel free to use this link to contact me on facebook and like it(if u like it)

Thanks for confirming all of this Darrell, this sounds exactly what my mate is after so, how does he go about ordering one from you, and in any event, yes, definitely get them up on Ebay ASAP! :)

Also, what is the best type of wool to use, is it the loose stuff in a bag (always found that difficult to pack evenly) or the stuff on a roll (that I always thought was for four stroke cans). If you could put a link up to something on the net which is reasonably priced and does a good job, that would be really helpful to all. Thanks :)

I have a modified small frame carbon can on mine and it is a lot quieter than the standard can. An alloy can is also better as they seen to absorb more sound than thin stainless JL ones.

I recently repacked the PM exhaust on my GTS with loose fill and the result was pathetic. Re-did it with blanket type and it was muck better. As I had some left over I decided to do the JL/3 on my Jet which had the original packing in it. It was still in fairly good shape but had hardened in places and was definately of the blanket type.

Just seen that Andy Francis is now selling a new quieter silencer for the JL/Franspeed exhaust, which is 5 decibels quieter, bolts straight on, and starts from just £49.50 for polished stainless version. Check out the ON-LINE SHOP on his website http://www.andyfrancisscooters.co.uk

Interesting he states "with new Eglass packing", so I'm wondering if it's just this that's making it quieter or the new design, or both, as most scoots run so rich it won't take 5 minutes to block up the packing! ;)

In any event, sounds like a great new (well overdue) product at a reasonable price, which I reckon most of our neighbours would welcome, and would probably chip in towards if you told them about it!! :D
