Hi, Back again. here are the pictures of the speedo housing and hub



this is the spindle and bearing without the oil seal and speedo drive



this is with the standard oil seal spacer



with the speedo housing on it fouls the cap heads holding the disc

is there supposed to be a spacer like this one

or could i get away with just using the spindle location washer as a spacer. The oil seal isn't fitted as I damaged it getting it out, but would the speedo drive make a difference when fitted? ie would it space the speedo housing off. Sorry about the big pictures I'm not sure how to resize them. Thanks

Is it because you have bolts in? i think mine is Cap head allen screws which dont sit as high, how much clearance do you need? could you change the bolts ?

The capheads are what came with the bits, the only thing I have done is use spring washers rather than plain ones. Would plain washers do rather than spring ones? Would they be safe to use? I would lose a millimetre or so if I used normal flat ones.

That nut shouldn't be there???
Looked at a Sterling Pepperpot earlier and that just has a washer on top of the short spacer tube to give it the required clearance.
Scootrs come with bolts and not cap head screws. They're 6mm so I'd just use thin wavy washers.

The bolts you are using are hexagon heads ,what you should be using ARE cap heads BUT low profile caps. The heads are a lot lower than std caps.Got disc set up myself and there isnt a lot of clearance hence why it was supplied with the low cap heads. Hope this helps.

They [scootrs discs] come with hex head bolts and there is no clearance issue, they don't need changing.


Err, err ..... That's if there's a shim underneath the housing. See below.

So, can I use that washer as a spacer after the oil seal and is it safe just to use plain rather than spring washers, cos that will bring the housing in closer. Thanks

Ah, the rest of the speedo housing sits inside the bolts, it's just catching slightly where the speedo drive worm fits it. You could just file a touch of the underneath where it's catching or add a thin shim underneath the housing.

Thanks for the replies. I've just ordered a spacer for the speedo housing/oil seal. I've used plain washers for the bolts but there is not much difference in height. I've filed the housing slightly but it still fouls the nuts so will wait for the spacer to come and try out. I didn't realise that the nut was not supposed to be on the housing side, so I've removed it. I've tried it in the links and can see how it goes together now, so no nut on the speedo side. It came with 2 smaller half nuts so that was why I used one on that side. The hub looks slightly to one side in the forks so will have to experiment with full size half nuts and the smaller width ones to space it correctly. Thanks again.
