The torque specified is just sufficient to provide the required clamping force to seal the cylinder head without causing distorsion of the ally head/barrel. I
Doesn't that just reflect the era in which it was designed. All the old knacker brit bikes (and cars too) were the same. Its not a trivial thing to swop, but a total re design. I presume as far as the OEMs are concerned, they get to use lighter, cheaper to them hardware AND sell more bits at services to compensate for extended service intervals and generally greater durability. As an apprentice, I moonlighted on cars which were scheduled for a decoke every 30-40,000miles. Second decoke, if it hadn't rotted away, needed a re-bore too. Isn't this where most scooters are at? The design, technology, materials and manufacturing processes are so different now.
My last car was still running like a train at 250,000 miles, but a wing mirror cost more than the car was worth and too much hassle to get an otherwise perfect vehicle MOT'ed.
Most if not all the fasteners on my car are use once only. Some insignificant job now requires £££ worth of new bolts. Its nice to have modern reliability, but it doesn't come for free.
