Defo the spring route...looked at my car headlight and the adjuster for headlight is spring loaded and pivoted it up and down.

Are all the lights in this thread halogens?? I wonder if you could fit a small but strong spring on the adjuster screw so that it pushed the headlight away, rather than just pulling it. You wouldn't need anything at the top of the light .... would you?
