Mel K wrote:Sef, mine was done by the people in the previous link and cost about £150, they developed the process themselves for racing engines years ago.Mine is on a ts1. Read up on their site for all the info. That Streaking has occurred on a mates recently relined with nicasil barrel after a couple of hundred miles. For the extra money id go ceramic again no prob. Cheers mel, did you have to send your piston and rings or did they do it to your measurments. I just spoke to them and they suggested i send the piston as well, only prob is i think there may be some wear on the piston as well. Will have to get that measured somehow to find out first.

My last replating was nikasil and was soft enough that it was damaged when the big went, too damaged to hone. My other TS1 has never been replated and still has the nikasil plating that Gilardoni applied in the factory and has survived a hard siezure that I cleared up with a light hone to the barrel. I don't think the nikasil replating in the UK is as good as Gilardoni's. In the US, I've heard that Mercury Marine offered a replating service that was good.
As for my damaged TS1? I went with ceramic, this time. If it goes again, I'll dig out the old steel lined TS1 engine that been in mothballs for 15 years.

Sef, I didn't actually send it, my mate did and can't remember whether the piston went with it or not, I'll find out and report back.

Hadnt thought about that but i would not have thought there would be any diffrence. will be puting a a new DT175 piston in, lot cheaper than the AF one and gave better performance...... :D
