Damper Studs

yes there was i wondered if perhaps the 8 to 6mm studs people were on about were these maybe mark is doing 8mm damper studs as well

one thing to note is mark states a drill size of 6.5mm were as normally a m8 thread is drilled at 6.75 or 6.8mm for a pitch at 1.25mm

I think Steve has a point, both repair studs should in theory do the 2 jobs, crankcase and damper. I also think Steve recommendation for a larger drill would be wise as with the links you are drilling into steel, unlike the crankcase softer Ali which would be easier to tap.
As you would be tapping steel, might also be worth considering buying a decent tap set, with a first and seconds tap for the 8mm?
I have exactly the same issue with a set, so be keen to see how you get on or if MB do indeed make the repair studs?

I think I've read that MB are making 8mm to 6mm studs, possibly on their facebook page. Imagine std are 7mm to 6 mm.

The studs you mention are for repairing crankcase sides.

Proper damper studs are shouldered to keep the damper in position, they also have a hexagonal section so you can tighten them with a spanner.
The crankcase side repair studs are M6 at one end, M8 at the other with a 6mm unthreaded section in the middle, not really suitable as a damper stud.

nev check these out at beedspeed they may be what you after i remember ian(soullad) might have used the m7 to 6mm ones ill check now and see if there suitable ............some people just seem to not want to help

nev looking at the links and studs i have this might just be long enough you need approx 11mm to screw into the damper then a 10mm shoulder the shocker(escorts) eye i have is 13mm across then a penny washer on the outside 1mm then a half nylock at 5mm so it should just do it
However ideally you should be 2 threads clear past the nut and the shocker eye should be on a smooth round surface and not on a threaded area as this could shear through the thread throat altho ive not seen it happen on damper studs
