don't forget the "v" term in the drag equation is squared

a linear difference of 5 mph doesn't sound a lot does it?

Don't be to hasty here, the original post says giving them a flying start.
Running a standing start quarter as it says on the tin means you've only got 402 metres to get to your top speed but you want to be accelerating all the way to the line, once you cross the line your finished, it dosent matter if you haven't topped out to the clock, these guys will be geering there engines to cover that distance in the best possible time, when I started my front sprocket was 16t buy the end of the second year I was up to 21t because my launches had improved so was able to 'get more in' in the distance.
Granted you need some horses to push the scoot through to 100 mph but given more distance and higher geering I'd say there are more than a few out there who could do it, weather conditions will also help.
I've done a 93.3 mph (Avon Park) with my engine in a cut down, it'll be harder on a full frame but this engine is used in my road bike, it has been rallied many times, I think with today's kits, pipes, cranks and clutches it is very possible, where you do it and how you time it though is another matter unless you get yourself on road wars!

lets put these speeds into prospective i did a trip down the strip on my bro s 350 ypvs which was tuned and running rich and that returned a 13.00 at 99.7 mph in the yam chassis and that was thrashing the pants off it . any scooter under that cc is bloody quick if its anywhere near that figure

It's funny when people talk about modern kits being to reach these higher speeds, how fast has Kieth Terry gone on an iron barrel?

Yes, its quick because it accelerated hard within the quarter but is that 99.7 mph it's top speed?, I'd guess theres another 20+ mph available but you need a longer run to get it.
I've sprinted alongside a standard 350 ypvs and beat it comfortably, had we gone on another quarter I'd have thought he would have gone past me without too much trouble.

it wasnt its top speed and your right if it was such as a flying mile it would have past you easily again down to cc hp and gearing as always

whilst im stood on my soapbox i should maybes bring in the fuel quality topic into the mix, many including myself have always said scoots were quicker in the 80ts than they are now ,cast barrels with square slide dellys and a baffless clubman pulling 21/ 47 gearing with 4.00 continental tyres as i and many others had back then , try running that set up with todays fuel and see where we get ,yep no where

so if we re going to be getting 100mph there should be no one in this so called 100mph club running any fuel other than stock unleaded or premium unleaded pump gas as they over the pond so call it fair yeah? no nitrous or av gas allowed
