I'm confused now, are you saying you are running 4 or 5 thin green plates in a deepened basket? If you are running 4 thin greens in a deep basket then you will almost certainly have too much free play, and you can try to take up that excessive free play with an extra plate.camel wrote:i did surface grind the top plate to 2.5mm and deepended the crownwheel myslelf.....im using surflex b green plates...which i changed over the winter...mind you the std surflex corkes seemed to work better last year.
i,l tally up the stack up i have then and see if i can give it more clearance before i invest
many thanks
It's probably LESS clearance that you need, too much clearance means that the springs are at or beyond the point of maximum tension.camel wrote:drunkmunkey6969 wrote:....i,l tally up the stack up i have then and see if i can give it more clearance before i invest

OK, i think this might be your problem. When you put the clutch compression tool on to the clutch/pressure plate and wind it in all the way in, the clutch plates should then be 'loose' in the crownwheel.....get hold of an 'ear' on the top/nearest clutch plate and 'waggle' it. It should 'waggle' no more than 2.5mm.....camel wrote:arh...when i say deepend i mean where the ears of the plates sit..i know some crownwheels are like this as std....this one wasnt...think i copied sticky,s book on this one.not the actuall depth of the crownwheel itself(sorry for the confusion)
yes 4 green surflex plates....heavy duty springs and a centre spring to boot
