very very nice, love the original paint and the rear light weirdly. its different. had the same jet 200 in the 80's and consigned the light to a skip, shame as i now see it differently. wish i still had it as well, the fact that its still around with no dents seems to point to the fact that a WELL set up front drum is good enough a brake. wouldnt spoil it with a hydraulic disc. got a drum on my 22 horse power JET and it stops two up like a good un, that too has mysteriously survived damage since 1975 with just a drum in a busy major city.

Toddy, I have put all my weight on the rear of the scooter and rocked it up and down as hard as I can, I couldn't get the exhaust to hit the runner... So wasn't sure to cut or not.

Hmm, I've stripped my front brake down cleaned it etc. Seems better, but not amazing, but has got better with a bit of light use up and down a lane...

Also, I was thinking of eventually adding things like sip tubeless rims for the safety. But I don't want to go over board and spoil the bike... What do you guys think?

dont spoil it but if theres an upgrade that makes sense then use it>> halogen front bulb, 12 volt ignition, led rear bulb. the tubeless rims are a good idea, the only thing that scares me about riding scooters is a front end blow out, never happened in 30 years and 100's of 100's of miles but i always rebuild my front wheel every year with a big check on trapped tube, valve condition and rim condition. maybe a tubeless front would give you the edge in a blow out. those new sip speedos are the dogs nacho's as well, a man isnt a man without novelties.

I want the bike to look a bit ratty/retro/racer, I think I've got the look going pretty good. With a slope back it will look spot on.

I've cleaned up the original wheels, but the were fairly rusty in side. Much better now I've cleaned the up, but I'd feel much safer on tubeless rims.

As for the brake, ill see how I find it while I'm running the bike in.

I want to keep modifications to purely bolt on stuff, so I can put it back to standard if wanted.

Ok fella, some are ok, i would keep an eye on it though especially if your fully loaded

I tried again last nigh, maybe its becausei have all my body work on the scooter now, it does hit. I'll trim it down.

with old rims, rub and file the inner surface back to bare metal, zinc galve spray it and then paint it with smooth right, then a thin layer of grease or wax oil,you can leave the outer looking as patina'd as you like but when you tune a bike get the essentials as good as poss. i reckon a lot of punctures result from inner rim corrosion on old bikes. The secret to a good original bike is that factory paint that everyone wants now with smooth rebuilt mechanicals. that said my GP200 has the same front tyre it was fitted with in 1971!!!! ive changed the tube recently and the rims have had a couple of revamps but the uncracked tyre is clocking up motorway miles.
i had a nice sx200 in original paint a couple of years ago and i wouldnt have sold it anyone who was going to restore it for ANY price, if they had said they were going to paint it i would have thrown them out of the door. some things are worth more than money.

I pretty much did that with the my wheels, but I feel i would he safer with tubeless.
