How to blow an Imola kit in under 100 miles!

how did you set the timing?

I used a strobe gun that i purchased from Readspeed. It was spot on, i'm thinking either air leak or wrongly jetted carb. It's all a learning curve and with hindsight i should of let a pro build the engine.

probably a better question is how did you set your ignition marks that you strobed it to?

are your casings welded to take those transfers and crank case feed?

Yeah mate JB done all the tuning work and the casings are matched to the cylinder ( beautiful job )

I followed Stickys excellent book ( no blame attached or intended ) and used the correct tools and timing disc from Cam Lam. Im 99% sure the timing was spot on, as i've already said, it's a learning curve and i've learn thats it's best to let an expert build a highly tuned engine but we've all been there and done it.

what plug was fitted and squish clearance used/check to see if your pilot jets blocked,check fuel flow do a test,is there correct tap position alignment ,the reed block and manifold are hard to seal and need a good sealant to make air tight

Iv'e double checked the timing and it was way way off ! looks like that was the cause of it. I'm waiting on the new piston, then it's off to JB to have the top end built again (properly this time ) Lesson learnt.

i managed to do the same on a mugello kit

the problem turned out to be a dodgy inlet manifold which wasnt seating properly on the inlet port, causing an air leak...
