The idea is to offer a range of switchable maps like the Chiselspeed MTech, but all built in to the CDI box rather than being a bolt-on with additional wiring.

For the price that's been mooted they seem good value if they work as intended.

can anyone translate this diagram in to "easy" english? lol
+1 please

No one willing to offer an explanation of what these graphs mean?

Take the stage 3 for example

@3500 rpm your ignition is 10 degrees retarded and advances to 0 degrees ( where your normal timing would be ) at 12500 rpm .

So if you set your timing at 17 degrees BTDC on your lambretta then at 3500 rpm your timing would be at 27 degrees and advance to 17 degrees at 12500 rpm .

So for the other stages its the same in 9 and 8 degree curves.

Im sure i said that wrong .

"So for the other stages its the same in 9 and 8 degree curves.", what you're saying is right, according to the scale on the graph, but the text seems to say something different...

At 3.5K the scale reads 10, 9, 8 degrees of additional advance but the text actually seems to read 10, 8, 5.

I'll have to look again... surely the graph can't be contradicting itself can it? The text would be my choice as the line and scale would only allow 2 degrees difference starting for all 3 curves? (head scratching)

Then again, what about the other 'stages' listed but not shown on the graph? Are these curves available or not?

Adam

PS - None of this is to 'have a go' as it does seem like this might be a very good option... just need a few things clarifying.

So if I understand this correctly, the Readspeed unit gives inital advance inceasing from 0 up to 3.5k which then retards again as revs rise? This is as apposed to the Augusto unit which starts at full advance (say 23 degrees) and retards to 17 degrees at either 6k, 7k or 8k depending on which unit is used.

If that's ther case, what is the benefit of retarded ignition at start up and low speeds, I thought that was where you wanted advance :? I've probably got something wronh here but would welcome correction 8-)

Varitronics do this too, it is a way of keeping it easy for kick-starting. By reducing ignition advance for kicking it helps the motor to spin more easily, then it quickly advances to give you the benefits for low RPM running, then it gradually retards so that it runs cooler at higher revs.

Cheers Adam, all is clear now :bouncing:

So, If I bought one of these cdi's would I be able to bolt it straight on? I have my static timing set to 19 degrees and the scoot starts first time. But I would like to get the engine to run as cool as possible.

Would I have to alter my timing or could it go straight on????

Advice would be gud thanx
