Looking at Byron's photo it begs the question why more of the current aftermarket expansion pipes can't be made to fit without the need to trim bit's off your footboards.
I've got one like Byron's too and it was also stamped to suggest it's a MK6

The ones I had were Mk3 and definitely had that style muffler.

I only ever recall seeing them called the Mk6 with the fatter muffler, perhaps Mk6 was when they moved to blown construction, maybe they did do some with the old style can and the stinger also looks thicker in that picture. I used to spend a lot of Saturdays in the old shop though my memory from those days is a little hazy...

There must be someone out there who can set the record straight.

It's stamped Mickeck and also 10-84, which I'm assuming means it was made in October 1984..

It's stamped up as a MK 6 version, can anyone tell me if it will fit a series 3 with rear footboards fitted please..? Also I am looking to get it braced as the main bracket is hanging from 1 rubber mount and there is nothing at the back, looks fab but I'm sure it won't stand up to a rally or two..!

Anyone recommend someone who knows what they are doing by bracing this up for me without spoiling the looks to much please...?

There should have been a clamp round the muffler, kind of shaped like a P or b with a bracket which went up to the rear lower shock mount. You can see it in Byrons pics.

You ought to be able to get the rubber mounts at any motor factor.

It's brand new mate, I bought it off a mate in the early 90's for about £50..! But it came as you see it in the pics and it's been hanging up in my garage ever since.

It's individual cones welded up beautifully, my only concerns are the single rubber mount for the main bracket + I've not got some form of 'p' bracket for the rear as I can see it failing here once a few miles are under it's belt..

Any ideas anyone...?

It'd be real easy to knock one up it's just thin steel strip about 50mm wide use the muffler as a form.

I have a Mikeck snail race pipe with a scoot RS end-can.



I have extensively re-worked the brackets. There is a slip-joint shortly after the exhaust flange, and then it is rubber mounted from then-on.

I always work on the basis that if the exhaust is flexibly mounted at the start of the pipe, then it should be flexibly mounted to the end of the pipe. If it is solidly mounted at the start of the pipe, then it should be solidly mounted to the end of the pipe.

Gas weld the cones, and braze (bronze weld) the brackets onto the body of the exhaust.

the pipe did touch on the uncut rear runner, but depends how hard your shock is, how much weight you carry and how bumpy the road is

since then i have made some cut down rear runners so no issues with that now
I'll get a photo up of my new rear bracket, that avoids the panel hitting the clamp that that goes to the rear shock mount.

the rubber bobbins are fitted to minis, so are some imperial thread. Get a handful, they do split. i did get some M8 ones from iirc a ford dealer, and they have lasted ages. Like any exhaust fitting, try not stress anything when fitting, it should just slip into place...
I have welded some loops on the header and pipe to enable use of springs on the slip joint.
