I use to leave fins 'indian' height but remove everyother one.

Yes; I noted that when you posted the picture before. Looks interesting. That's the thing with cooling. It's a bit of a black art unless somebody can measure the effects of a deep cowl or a short cowl, or even a flywheel with half the blades removed.

**Please note**
My views are purely opinionated and in no way expert, I write like a two year old and can barely put together a coherent sentence, infact I needed my dog to open a bank account for me.

Out of interest can anyone confirm for me the difference between long and short fins is 7mm as i've one to machine myself next week and I cant be sure of the difference. Last time I did one, I bolted it through the centre hole to the bed of a bridgeport miller and milled the fins off to length.

I think a miller is probably the way it's done anyway. Sticking it on a lath and trying to turn down the fins sounds a bit dodgy to me.

I do mine in a lathe no problem ,just take steady sweeps. As for the number of fins the old MSC plastic fans didn't have many but I never had a problem with cooling, likewise with a varitronic and Indian cowl I have on my TS1 now and the fins are miles away from the cowl.
