Have you tried this with the slide yet? From experience,if the slide is either to big/small,you will feel it from pulling away.This must be a wind up surley. When the throttle is fully open,the slide isnt visible so the cutaway cant effect it.

I took the slide out with a view to making the adjustment but couldn't measure the 40mm to take it to 45mm and I didn't feel easy just filing the slide and damaging it.

What have MB suggested?
I'm not convinced they'd recommend filing at a slide.

Filing the slide or replacing it with a 45 would make it a bit crisper when pulling off. The main problem of four stroking at top speed is probably that the main jet is too large. The slide won't have any influence at Wide Open Throttle.
One other thing to check is that the choke slide is seating properly as this is a regular problem with the PHBH.
Not a wind up Soosh . . . . I just gave him a good baseline setting for the carb and engine, slightly rich all the way from tickover to WOT.
