A couple from near Stoke both came first in the LCGB's Best Supporting Member competition last season riding Indian Stage 4 barrels, 22mm carbs and Clubman exhausts. Their scoots weren't capable of 80mph but they were very reliable.

Thanks for the further advice, I think I will go with this carb and exhaust choice.
I guess, for the clutch. Stronger springs would be all that is needed.
Any other "must have" engine internals that people can recomend for a mildly tuned scooter?
Thanks

I have an original Autisa Spanish barrel on my Jet200, it was tuned to Stage 4 first by Taffspeed then by Readspeed. I ran a Asso Werks piston, JL3, 30mil Dell, Jet200 crank and SX200 gearing. It was last dyno'd at 18.5bhp, it'll do a genuine GPS 80mph and it pulls like a train. I have been around the UK and Europe several times on it and it's never let me down. It was in this state of tune for about 6 years. Recently had it retuned by MB and had an MB crank and piston fitted. It is now faster with even more grunt! A decent set up Stage 4 will last! My bike and my mates Soosh are prove of that.

I also have an AUTISA kit waiting for a rebuilt. So I take you didn't find a 54mm crank? Or you preffered a 58 just for revving issues? Did you tailed the cylinder? I think I do recall your bike from the LCGB forum, years ago, wasn't your autisa kit a "one of" built for racing purposes?
Cheers pal,
J.

I recommend using a 28/30 carb if you really want a fast touring engine.
Bigbore pipe ok,jl3 spot on but go with larger carb.I used to run a 22mm bit tried a 30 and was a big difference.

Ok, thanks for the further advice. And yes I was thinking of 30mm carb. I will have to have a look at costs to deturmin what I do.
Has anybody any experience with using a Spanish 200 barrel? Is there any difference?

I'm really interested in this thread and fancy going down this route myself with my std sil 200 motor, however i have a few questions that hopefully someone can clear up for me.
1. Is it possible to take a sil 200 barrel out to 225cc (70mm), and still leave enough metal for a rebore or 2.
2. would a rapido 200 / 225 set up be a better place to start than the sil top end, and if so classic or race version.
3.Who has had this done, by whom and roughly what sort of money are we talking about
4.Which piston would people suggest.
5.Would a 25mm delly perform just as well as a 30mm in this case.

I used the 25 years ago,was ok but was better with 30.
You really notice the difference.

I used the 25mm also and found the 30mm far better, 25mm was great round town very responsive but ran out of steam on the open road,
Anyone wishing to go the stage 4 set up, their is plenty of info on this forum that will help with set up be it carb/exhaust/gearbox etc etc and from my own experience is worth the time and effort...IF..you get a proper stage 4 and not an ebay stage 4 shall we say
In this age of extortionate fuel prices and pricey kits its one retro fashion you should all have a think about at some point
