Yes Mike I'm keeping my fingers crossed that is the problem too ;)

And Paul, I know where you're coming from mate but I hate admitting defete 8-) , got that clutch sorted yet? ;)

Excat same problem as i had...take the exhaust off and look up the exhuast port...i reckon youlle see the bottom ring as shed its peg...and gone walkies....(read my post)...i too was using a stage 4 indian head...i had the the head rebored and fettled at Mb,s..its perfect now.

turned out the the clutch was not slipping at all. It was a worn out drive spring and ramp on the front sprocket that made it seem like clutch slip. Mr. Winstone and Mr. Tid diagnosed the problem :bigsm:

Update, managed to get a couple of hours on the scoot today, whipped the barrel off and was greated by this, you were right :cry: :

Cleaned up ok and rings freed off easily enough

I reckon the piston at least started to go about 3 weeks ago when it suddenly lost power whilst I was giving it some stick. I noticed that the exhaust flange has been leaking so it might have been a bit weak. The piston is an MB Racetour and the crown seems very thick, there is no discolouration underneath the cratered area so I might put it back together and see how it goes before risking another piston in it.

A sad sad sight pal..id say first cause of action would be to investigate and seek the reason why its got so hot and started to eat the piston..

That is a good point.

Sean, what I meant was that the colouration is uniform, no localised signs.
