I've used a Lectron, in my opinion they are good carbs, although getting the right metering rods can be a problem.
I think the one in your photo above has been heavily modified, the standard ones I've seen still use a power jet and a needle (metering rod) and still need setting up. The power jet, float bowl and bell-mouth are also different from what I've seen, I'm guessing some of the mods like the float bowl are for methanol.

I remember Graham Best playing with these carbs in the 1980's. He claimed it put an instant 1000rpm on the top end of his racer, but he had problems sealing the transparent float bowl. It seemed a real shame that this carb was let down by a rather gimmicky construction.

There seems to be a place for a carb that is ajusted by screw threads rather than jets, though I think there are some Dell'Orto carbs available with an adjustable main jet. Wal Phillips injector anyone?

It is interesting to see that the transparent float bowl is not fitted to the carb in the photo. Perhaps after 20 years, they have decided to move away from gimmicks.

ok time to start looking for 1 then, anyone in the states on here get these cheaper then over here, I was going to use a VHSB 34mm, but these seem nice and simple

I'll get mine back from David Blythe, and you can buy that if you like ? Can't remember how much I paid for it, or the carb details, once I get it back I'll post up some specs.

i was told to contact (Bayarealam) on there, i think they were $365 about £240

Carlos is right.....one of the lads from the Mohicans has one on his RB 260 (Glenn). He bought the bike with it on and I know he is thinking of changing it. PM me if you are interested and I'll pass on your contact details.

Dont forget that the person who sets it up on the dyno needs to know all about them and be able to change things , two people have them and there both getting shut ,i would speak to al at diablo or chris sturgess first ,no point in wasting money on something that the dyno boys wont play with !

I've briefly played with 2 or 3 of these carbs in 30, 34 & 38mm sizes on different machines, i even ran one on my racer for a while. But I found it a pig to set up in the mid range, in a similar fashion to Mikunis that have fixed atomisers. I spent a fortune ordering multiple needles from USA and still not getting a setup that i was happy with. I also sent a couple of these carbs to Al at Diablo to play with and on the few machines he tried them on he told me that he could see no discernable difference in power output, in fact on one set-up i'm sure he told me that got more power from a Mikuni? Al....do you recall? I ran them on various customers machines to test them for power increases and didnt see any when comparing size-for-size. And as for the alledged metering system that creates perefct air/ratios at all altitudes etc.....well, the lean spots i can see on the dyno dont back that up, neither did the heat seize due to lean running at Mallorr Park.

So i'm certainly not sold on the product. I ended up selling them off and using a Mikuni 38mm on the racer and a Dellortto 30mm oval bore/flat slide on the road scooter.

So as far as i can tell, in my limited testing, and from feedback i got from others, they are not a 'bolt on power modification' of any kind, and they offer no noticable benefit to the Lambretta owner that is of any real discernable difference to a well set up Dellorto or Mikuni.

But who knows......maybe in the US these carbs are more readily available, maybe they are cheaper, maybe the spares are cheaper there too, and maybe there is more set-up info available.........but in UK, when looking at the cost of a Lectron carb, plus all the spare needles you will need to get it set up properly, it becomes immediately apparent that (as mentioned) you can get a Delly or Mikuni carb much cheaper, spares are cheaper, spares are more readily available, there are thousands of Lambretta owners offering set up info, and most major dyno centre carry Delly and Mikuni spares etc etc.

So Lectron cost and effort vs actual benefit??

But....if you are looking for something 'different', dont mind spending a few quid, ordering spare needles from USA, playing with different set ups, fiddling around for ages and trying to master a new set up for very little if at all any real gains, then this is definitely the carb for you.

ok on a rb260 what carb would you use i was going VHSB34.

I run one on my Race Rapido 220 with an LTH reed manifold, MBD Piston and Taff pipe. I run a 30mm that I bought from Craig B. (AKA) bayarealam on Paisans. I was running a Mik TMX 35 prior. I liked the TMX but I live in San Francisco with it's hellish hills and crazy micro climates and could never get it dialed in. I set the Lectron and it pretty much adjusts itself. I'll be doing a coastal/ low mountain ride on Friday to Guernville on the Russian river (That mention is for you Train Driver) and I won't be worrying about altitude and air pressure/climate changes at all. I have been very happy with the ease of set up over the Mikuni. It is not a cheap carb and I may fit that TMX 35 on my TS1 simply because I have it. I can only offer personal experience and don't have any dyno back up but I've been pleased. The plastic bowl thing is a non issue for me.
