I have fitted a brand new Ducati CDI and it is still the same, it will fire and run but only for a few moments. Am i right in thinking that if i disconnect the green wire from the loom from the CDI it will bypass the ignition switch? I want to try and eliminate the awitch before i go any further. Any help great on this would be great. Cheers Pete

Pete
removing the loom green will bypass the ignition, so try it.
Have you tried new fresh fuel?
I would also get a multimeter on the stator plate, and follow the procedure outlined in stickys book for testing the stator. Post your results back on here if you wish? It could be a faulty LT coil or pick-up.

Hi soullad, i have disconneted the green wire and and the spark is good and strong i reconnected it and its the same. Brand new bgm stator and cdi fitted so they should both be good. The plug seems pretty dry when i remove it, so i'm leaning towards a fuel problem. I'll wait for the rain to stop and i'll strip the carb down. I'll keep you posted. Thanks mate.

When i kick it over with my hand over the carb fuel pours out of the mouth of the carb, is this normal? surely it should be getting sucked into the cylinder? could it be the reeds? i'm starting to get a bit frustrated now :wtf:

You already checked the reeds and said they were fine :? Have you taken Soulad's advice and tested the stator readings? your problem sounds VERY much like a high resistance on your LT coil or maybe a failty pickup. You need to check the resistance between the red and white wires and then the green the white. For the red/white you should get between 95 - 115 ohms and the green/white should read between 450 -500 ohms (Check with the numbers in Sticky's book). Also, if the readings seem ok, try tapping the may housing with a small hammer whilst looking at the meter, anu movement would indicate an intermittant fault.

I'm 100% sure it's not the stator, i have fitted 3 different ones all of which are known to work fine. I have fitted a new cdi so it's not that. I have been told that it could be something as simple as the spark plug, so i'm going to eliminate the spark plug, only trouble is i have a shed full of spares but no spare spark plugs! I have ordered a new one and will fit that when it arrives and take it from there. Thanks for your comments / advice. Pete
