thats right sean , new rings 5 houres new piston every 10 to keep them running to the optimum specsean brady scooters wrote:relately low revs and max torque is where its at for most road scoots, together with reliability and reasonable fuel consumption...
for race machines or indeed fast road scoots ,its all about max power and so revs...and for these machines really long term reliability and fuel consumption are just secondary considerations ..
sporty scoots are regulary stripped down and checked over as a matter of course at certain intervals and fuel consumption/MPG is not even considered...
how many racers worry about the cost of maintaining their motor or the MPG ?
to those that want and seek some sort of balance between a std scoot and a racer it will always be a balance and compromise ( depending which way they ere )between not only power and torque (drive ability ) but also other factors such as
reliability ,mpg ,and general running /maintanance costs ..horses for courses..hey .

Interesting.
How can that be a Taffy copy
What's the motor spec and what's the 4th (pink) pipe, AF Clubman?

Turn On, Tune In, Cop out!
taffy copy - saigon scooters - expansion and tailcan mm identical but slightly shorter header pipe - was gonna stick another 1/2" - 1" and have same as taffy
ts1 230cc std with 1.5mm off base to lower timimngs
48mm clubman with header pipe going from 42 - 48mm (might be too short?)
cheers

lth manifold
bgm reeds with yamaha std (metal) petals
AV266 x2 top clip
52 pilot
145 main (rich)
21 / 46 sprockets (4.38 final drive)
now using 20 / 47 (4.7 final drive) for the moment
if you look at the taffy and taffy copy runs they are identical, just further up the rev range on the copy due to the slightly shorter downpipe/header pipe
the ron moss clubman just keeps on going

Were you using a 40 slide in the carb? The reason I ask is that shortly I will be running a very similar setup to you with the taffy copy pipe and it's useful to have a good starting point for the carb settings
yes 40 slide - was advised any more and could have problems rolling off throttle after a run
on the dyno you can see a blip with the copy
this is common with "tuned" exhausts on ts and rb and hard to lose - if you havent got panels a bellmouth helps smooth out carburation
