Which one is it?

shame as still had 3mm of depth unused for the pressure plate to sit in , really needs a modified pressure plate as well to work with 5 standard plates, but can see that it is achievable

The springs may not have been the problem in the first place....it maybe the combo of spider/pressure plate/crownwheel that you have.

Take out the springs so they are not part of the equation, and put the pressure plate, clutch plates and steels back in.....i bet there is zero space for the clutch plates to move (thats if you can even fit them in). Your pressure plate will be pivoting on the Xmas tree....so it appears that the combo of p-plate/sprocket/spider that you have doesnt fit.....

......exactly which spider is it? The answer to that dictates how to resolve the problem.

David it seems you are trying to make work bits that were never intended to be together in the first place give the FOXHAT brothers a pm and they can sort the problem. A real Foxhat spider is one of the best bits of kit i have ever purchased and if you take there advice the 6 plates will easily fit with no issues.
Kindest Regards ;)
