Yes , marked TDC then marked 19 degrees from the left of TDC which is anti-clockwise..

'try closing the gap on the plug then try it'

What gap does it have to be , its a brand new plug so shouldnt it be pre set,
I have a feeler gauge so can check if someone knows the correct gap

no new plugs are not pre set................just try it at about 0.5 <> 0.25

When you put the flywheel on are you sure the woodruff key wasn't dislodged? might be worth checking

Woodruff key in place as I hremenber I had to line up the flywheel with it to slot it on.

how do you set electroninic ignition timing without it running ?

You may have set the timing statically, but its best to strobe it.. If you are going on the timing marks on the flywheel, they could be out.

hell yeah ....if you get an old plug and remove the center ceramic bit and put a bolt through it ...put in head and mark the point on your mag housing by Turing flywheel buy hand both ways until it cant go any further ...mark both points and half way between these is tdc

I think he's referring to the pick up lines on the stator and flywheel that help get the stator in an approximate place to allow the engine to run (pre strobing), not the firing point/flywheel arrow marks.

Right, set the plug to 0.5 - 0.6mm as recommended in stickys book page 29.
Still no start...

Timing set with TDC tool and timing disc, then when arrow on outer edge of flywheel lined up 19 degrees I adjusted the pick up on the stator plate to match the marks on the inner flywheel.
