i wouldnt be letting you scooter tick over for any length of time with no gear oil in , your transmission parts will be turning dry, and could result in damage. wait until you can take it for a decent run until you can assertain your plug colour, doing it on the stand ticking over shows nowt. its probly spit back from the carb gathering in the filter thats making it smokey. try a 48 pilot.

The scoot is 12 Volt. The 12 Volt kit was professionally fitted locally, and I have not touched it.

The smoke isn't putrid or white for that matter...it is like a mid grey.

I have dropped the idle jet down as far as a 42 to see if that would make any difference. The X9 needle on the carb is second position down from the top.

I will put gear box oil back in tomorrow, put in new fuel, another brand new plug, fire it up and take it for a spin to see what happens...well weather permitting that is !!!!

I have revved the s**t clean out of it and it continues to smoke the same way. I have adjusted the air mix from a 1/4 turn out to the point were the screw almost falls out.

2 thoughts.

Have you checked to make sure that the choke returns FULLY and closes off the choke jet?

It's winter, it's cold outside, it's a tuned 2 stroke, why would it NOT smoke :wtf:

I'd change the X9 needle to a weaker needle. Std needle in a PHBH 26 would be X7.

Doesn't happen to be a full length seat with a scarf or rag shoved underneath it?
That's not going anywhere...

I feel that if you check the choke returns fully and use

52 idle
40 slide
AS266/X2 or AV264/X7 second clip
105- 107 main

You'll have a result . . . an X9 needle (which someone mentioned) has no place in a lambretta carb

Eventually got to the bottom of this one. The inlet manifold was not sitting true causing a slight gap. I had to re-bore out one of the threads on the cylinder and put an oversized bolt in to hold the manifold in place.

The idle jet was far too small, so I upped it to a 53 and the bike starts first kick every time. I changed the choke mechanism to a flip choke also. I changed the needle to the right one and have it second position down. The bike is running pretty good, perhaps a little rich as there is a small amount of oil coming from the end can, and the plug is a little dark, but overall it is responsive & starting perfectly, so I think I will leave it alone !!!!

Thanks for all your ideas & advice gents 8-)

Glad its running fine now but the suggested reason doesn't quite compute for me.
An air leak on the inlet manifold would normally equal lean, going down on the idle jet again lean, curing the leak would make it richer, but you went up on the idle. :wtf:
Hey its going so what the hell :fb:
