Would lapping the the cone into the hub with valve grinding paste help ensure a perfect fit?
Just an idea?

mine was caused by a poor fitting nut and lock washer,if i can i'll get pics up.
the lock ring didnt do it's job.it was torqued up as nec.i.m.o if the lock ring and nut were up to the job this would not of happened.

I lapmine with grinding paste now and I also make sure the cone doesn't bottom out on the splines. I fit these as well http://www.forums.ilambretta.com/viewto ... ngineering

I done a innocenti rear hub this year at the isle of wight
, i torqued the nut at 150ft/lb a couple of days before the rally.The hub came loose after id been riding from ryde to shanklin, i purchased a new hub from andy francis and after fitting ,one of our lads who was helping checked for play and found movement, on closer inspection we found that although the nut was tight it had bottomed out on its threads. I purchased a new nut from same dealer and everything was ok.
Where we had tightened the nut up you could see that the threads on the layshaft had started to cut a thread in to the untapped material in the nut.
So a 3.50 nice shiney rear nut cost me a innocenti hub and £51.00 of my weekend beer Tokens.
As the man said check your nuts !!
