I use these barrels with mb pistons,no problems with rings,after 2000 plus miles.

Preheating and post heating as mentioned above is essential but you could do a welded repair and there are a few options that have worked for me over the years. In fact i managed to repair a really badly damaged Trojan cylinder using all three, which was good for the owner as it was rarer than a rare thing.

TIG weld using a stainless or knickel filler rod, stick weld using a nickel rod or you can even oxy-acetylene weld it using a cast iron rod.

but as said pre and post heat is the key...if you don't want to hear the tell tale cracking sound :shocking:
