Yes, flush on the inside and the oil seal fitted facing outwards.

I'm stumped on this one so going to get someone else to take a look - bit of a pain as I wanted to rebuild the engine this weekend, but I guess that's Lambretta's for you :(

No- but I have tried fitting the lay shaft, and then (just for checking purposes) placed the end plate in place without putting the gears and cluster in place, without the end plate bush, and the end plate, when flush with the lay shaft,is too high to fasten down - the ends of the bolts are flush with the end plate, so it is a good 4 or 5 mm too high.

Bearing to wide, like an Indian one. Re-bagged bearing?

so the endplate wont sit down in its home position?thats what your saying and your assuming its the layshaft causing it to sit to high...think ive read you eliminated the gearbox by removing it and fitting the endplate,so have you eliminated the layshaft?will the endplate sit down without it fitted?ie is there a problem with the dowels?or the endplate....

Re. fitting the end plate without the lay shaft in place - it fits perfectly.
