get youself a cheap multimeter tester (not analogue) , switch it to OHMs 2K , unplug the stator, put the red wire(positive) from the tester to the red wire from the stator (pick up) and earth the tester via its own black wire it should read no less than 90,how do i test the ignition??
then put the tester red wire to the stator green wire (coil) and earth the tester via its black wire and it should read around 500 ,, any less than these readings and they are shagged man,,, hope its as clear as mud,,,
thats the longest peice` of typing i have ever done!!!
carb set up for no hole in panel, he also supplied one of those foam filters that you stick on the inside of the panel, I tried it but the bike won't even rev at all with it on, it's like putting your hand over the carb. I have had the panel on but no foam.
thanks for ignition testing advice. I will ask my mates if they have a multimeter if not I'll buy one, should come in handy anyway.
i would say thats the problem, unvented carbs seem to give this symptom even if well set up. the breath sweet filter seems to improve this as long as the carb is re jetted as the air flow is funnelled in by an almost radiused pipe rather than bouncing and spluttering against the panel then sucking back the blow back / splutter. the bgm filter with the different rings is hopeless, ive tried it back to back with the breath sweet and it killed it dead.sean brady scooters wrote:ok ,so did mark set up your carb for a filter or open running..?

im no expert but that's my experience so far, get 100 miles on it and get it set up on a dyno with the panel on
polini do one of these that fits bigger carbs, im wondering how they would suit a lambretta to get proper flow.

This may sound a bit stupid but have you got your piston in the correct way round as I have seen this a few times the bike will run and rev ok when in neutrel but as soon as you try and ride it it bogs down and won't pull , it is just a thaught if you remove your ex pipe and look up the ex port when the piston is at TDC if you can see the 2 holes in the piston there is your problem

I definitely had the arrow on the piston crown pointing to the exhaust side when I fitted it, but you've got me doubting myself now. ha ha ......no it's definitely not back to front.
cheers

Main jet is a 135, needle X2. These were deliberately big/rich I think as MB have rejetted it for running in.

Personally I have never got on with an X2 needle ,always too rich.Have you got an X7 to try? start off with the clip on bottom groove and move up one notch at a time till stuttering clears. Once you have got some miles on it then you can do a short blast up to full throttle to check main jet.
