hi all, im just building a casa 225 x7 kit onto an engine for a mate of mine, also got a protti pipe and a variatronic ignition to fit, the instructions seem very unclear, i trawled the internet and found instructions on cam lam site, it suggested 19 degees at fast tickover with an expansion, does this sound about right ? I do also have one of these variatronic kits to fit to my rotax 290 at some point as well so I do need to work this out, thanks in advance,

u will make little power on a Variatronic set at 19 degrees it will retard too much before it gets on the pipe; set the timing at 2000 rpm; I’d run somewhere close to 23 degrees as a start point it’ll retard to around 15 degrees at revs; you could ask mickey at rimini lambretta he’d give you the best reply

think the recommended ignition timing for the 225 x7 is 24-26 degrees at 2000rpm

24 at 2000 rpm will be about 16 degrees by about 7000 rpm.

Difficult to strobe due to the double spark. Most strobes only work up to about 8000rpm so at about 4000 rpm, they go haywire on a varitronic.

The leaflet I got with mine from Cam Lam says 19 with a expansion, as above. When I questioned Cam Lam about this with the logic you guys are applying I was told 19 and wasn't given a reason why not 23 and it retards to 18.

But I agree id think it would be at like 14 of maximum revs.
