I'm trying - started a build thread. Takes a bit of effort to upload pics but it's worth it - it's there on a thread and easily found. I've done a couple of car builds a good few years ago when FB wasn't really around, and enjoyed doing it and it helped a lot of others doing the same thing. The group I was in started a FB page and (as I told them it would) the website died within a year or so.

I'm not a particular Lambretta expert (in terms of taking them apart and restoring/building them that is) and so there's lots of questions I need answering as I try and bring this rusty 60 year old thing back into existence, but to be honest I've had to put it on FB as well - as at least you get some answers, even though once you post it it's ancient history in about a day...

But I'm happy to keep plugging away on old tech cos Lambrettas make me (and my little girl) feel like this...

The social media platforms are cheaper and easily accessible and all it costs is the harvesting of your data and 'targeted' ads. But they are all inferior to forums, in my opinion. In spite of most threads disintegrating into insults and arguments after three pages, you can get help, entertainment and reliable information, which is difficult to get and even harder to find on Facebook.

The question is though, as traffic falls where is the critical point where it's no longer financially viable to run or host the site, and all that valuable information is lost?

Even something like Photo-whatsit charging to host images really hit forums hard and all those wonderful build threads are now imageless.

[I've had my Li for 30 years, still ride it most days and still enjoy it. I'm no longer a member of LCGB as there didn't seem to be much point. The fee of £25 isn't a great deal, but I objected to it being spent on solicitors, and the magazine was a bit pointless. There were very few members rallies near where I live and anyway, if I wanted to go with the Ms, Ms Eddiestone would have to pay to be a member as well. It's the last point that made me wonder if it was worth it. It was a bit of an eye opener seeing what the Vespa clubs do in comparison. I was seriously considering joining one.]

couldn't agree with you more Eddie. You have raised all the issues that have been o my mind for some time now.

I rarely post on here anymore because I'm sick and tired of all the flaming and trolling that goes on and the personal insults and threats . This should be a forum to exchange help and ideas to shoot the breeze and keep in touch with current developments in the classic scootering scene but regretably it is no longer any of these things. There are too many members intent on causing discord and disruption and nothing is being done about it. Plus there is an astonishing amount of apathy and couldn't care less attitude which I find very selfish . 400 views and not a single viewer can be bothered to respond on any level yet they are probably the first to post for help when they need it.

I totally agree with you about the LCGB squandering members subs on legal wranglings about nothing that matters without asking members for permission to spend that money. (breaks out the popcorn ).. ;)

Posting any sort of question or comment that could be in any way construed as criticism about the LCGB these days immediately results in a flurry of attacks and defense by LCGB members who it seems are incapable of having a discussion or debate about anything without insults and threats. i paid a £25.00 sub for 3 years purely to be able to socialise and help other members on the forum . As i was housebound for 7 years I wouldn't have been able to benefit from rallies and other events even if I had wanted (which I don't) as for the other so called benefits they were of no use to me. I stopped being a member because I didn't agree with how the club was spending members subscription money and in my opinion not being properly accountable to members and was fed up with flaming and threats from both members and staff on the forum.

Change the record Johnny.... every man and his dog knows your views about LCGB, so why you feel the need to keep on reminding us at every opportunity beggars understanding.

Why not just concentrate on what you enjoy .... and get over the fact that LCGB is not for you...by voting with your feet and leaving you severed the tie.

I’m interesting in the evidence that members are unhappy that the LCGB are “waisting “ their money.
As far as I can see the committee were re-elected by the LCGB members at the AGM- and this means the majority of members are happy with the overall running of the club and the way the committee act.
I personally have no problem with the committee defending the Club or its property.

As its an open forum......
I was at the last AGM and the GF/BLOA was again the biggest topic (as the year before).
The floor unanimously backed the committee to continue with the defence for the second year.
Hopefully we should see the end of it in 2020.
And yep the whole committee was relected, again unanimously....I either proposed or seconded !
I'd have happily paid an extra 25 quid over my subs to support the legal.
It works for me and Im lucky as i get to use the benefits of the club to the max.

So the LCGB as a club ( based on re-election and unanimous backing at the AGM) are happy to support the committee stance.
Any non members suggestions that the club is wasting money over this stance is an individual opinion and does not reflect the views of the LCGB membership as a whole.

Yep, for two years now and i cant see that changing at the 2020 AGM.
The committee has my full backing to finish this, if not done so before the coming AGM
