While replacing the tyres on my Lammy, I was surprised at the amount of rust on the inside of the rims, some of it quite bad.

Having cleaned them up and repainted, does anyone have any tips for holding the dreaded lurgie at bay? I was thinking of smearing the insides with silicon grease.

Any thoughts on this?

I would suggest a zinc based paint to spray the inner part of the rim, or have the rim galvanised before painting, I wouldn't use grease.

To be honest if they are that badly corroded I'd seriously think about getting some new rims for what they would cost to prep. The standard BGM rims look very good, and a reasonable price.

Don't use grease. Lots of rubbers absorb it and will go all funny and weird. You'd probably die.

I always powder coat my rims if not too far gone, just a quick spray with silicon to ease the tires on, never had an issue.

Silicon grease is not oil based and can be used on rubber as a protection.

Thanks. Already treated and painted. Cost: £8 for the paint.
