A mate of mine gave me a rear shock for my Series 2 - not sure what it came off GP/Li etc - have noticed recently that the bottom of my side panels seem to be hitter the back of the rear runner (engine side only) and bending it down a little bit.
Is this:
a) because rear shock is too short
or
b) the spring isn't strong enough
or
c) I need to lose weight
Series 2 rear shock question????

You might need to loose weight ..but i suspect its not the problem as are any other of the list you have made.
The side panels are on the frame as are the rear runners. They are fixed.
The shock absorber is for the engine. Only the engine moves.
It pivots on the engine mounts.

Series 2 shocks are 315mm centres series 3 are 300mm if it's a 300mm your engine is is sitting 15mm further up in the frame and it's probably hitting the exhaust bending the rear bracket floorboards

Is that why people cut out a small section of the rear runner?
I presume its when running expansion chambers.
My scooters only have club man style exhausts no problems.

Thanks all - I think I'll go with a longer shock so I don't have to cut any more from the runner. Might treat myself to an R1 for Christmas
