Gearbox shimming - feeler gauges

hi, hope this doesn't sound like a daft question but where abouts should the feeler gauges be placed on the endplate when measuring the endfloat on the large gear shim ? thanks for any info ;)

The hardened bearing cup that is inserted into the end plate has an L shaped side profile....

you are measuring the gap between the shim and the bottom of the L...

Here's a picture put the feelers gauge in between the large washer on top off 1st gear and the endplate Image

Look for 0.30 to0.07
