You mean you want to change them?
You can adjust them just tighten the locking ring to take up the slack or loosen it off

1) remove headset top and light fitting
2) slacken off/ unclip all cables at the "engine" end; undo speedo cable; undo front brake cable
3) mark where the upper column is clamped by the headset clamp
4) unbolt and remove the pinch bolt holding clamp to upper forks
5) if you are lucky you can pull the lower headset off and rest it "inside" the leggies
6) you will need the correct "C" spanners to undo the upper and lower nuts- remove both and the locking plate in between
7) replace/ regrease upper bearing race (if you wish to replace the LOWER race tip the bike to one side so you can withdraw the forks)
8) tighten the lower nut so there is no play in the forks but they "drop" to either side without binding/ sticking
9) place locking plate on top of lower nut
10) add upper nut and tighten against the plate using both sets of "C" spanners- make sure the forks are still free of play/ not sticking
11) add lower headset lining up the marks in "3" above
120 reassemble upper headset and all cables etc

if you're local then bring it round- but Warringtons a fair old trek!mickfeath. wrote:Thanks a million Chris.
The main problem is adjustment- you will have to retighten and readjust till its 'just right"- takes a bit of patience. Also if you replace the bearings it will need readjustment after 500 miles or so.
A good way of checking your bearings is to sit astride your scooter (engine off) and place your thumb across the lower headset joint and the top of the leggies joint. Rock the scooter backwards and forwards as you apply the front brake- any play will be felt at that joint as movement.
If its any consolation mine need doing as well for its MOT!!
Shout if you get stuck
